Quantum Vision Film

Microsoft

Process:

The Azure Quantum Elements vision film is a piece with a purpose to inspire, excite, and imagine the possibilities of Quantum Computing and Artificial Intelligence.

Directing this piece involved putting together a lean team to execute on a script that required a voice and a main character to follow. The day in the life approach cemented a documentary style approach to filming. The benefits of this approach not only made it more relatable and intimate, but it ultimately also kept production costs lean. Everybody wins. It brings a high value concept of future facing products into a very digestible story.

Production involved a one day shoot and bringing on an actor to portray our scientist. Maleah's character represented scientists in both research, medical, and education. This character, in many ways, carries the purpose of the film. Voice over narration drives the docu-style theme, while allowing for emphasis on the use cases across science and medicine.

Editing the story was a matter of pacing for how commercial or branded we wanted to feel. There was opportunity to let scenes play out, bordering what would be Nat Geo short film. But in lieu of keeping things moving for the audience, which was going to be Executive level decisionmakers, keep it lean and tight was the way to go.

Music was another exploration. From the likes of Daniel Pemberton & Mychael Danna, I drew inspiration from these composers, who create musical textures for what is often single character driven stories. This provided a fitting backdrop to direct Zelig music to create something unique that fit within Microsoft brand but also catered directly to the significance of this piece.
